How to do it

Any good idea starts with just that--the IDEA.
Do you have one?

The idea behind "Web Pages That Make A Difference", is to make a "Real Contribution to the Virtual Community". It is to go beyond a home page which says "Hi there, Here I am, here is my dog". (Hey, we are not knocking that kind of page at all, most of us have one just like it!). It's just that there is a world of opportunity to help others, educate others, and to do something good via this medium, that may be largely untapped because it simply never came to mind! This can be as simple as a second page off that "Hi there!" home page, or it can go much farther....

Think about the idea:

  • Is there a cause you would like to promote?
  • A topic you feel needs to be exposed to people on the web?
  • A group that could use assistance in obtaining their goals?
  • A topic about which you could educate people?
The topic does not have to be earth-shatteringly altruistic to make a contribution. If you want to guide people to nice places to eat in your small town in Canada--that can be a contribution. If you are a creator of rubber stamps and you can share your art and your love for stamping with others--that can make a difference. If you share your travel tips and suggestions for economizing on the road that could be a contribution. If you offer a unique product or service, even if it is for sale, it can still be making a difference. If you feel strongly about protecting the environment, want to contribute to stopping domestic violence, want to help your local animal shelter, or perhaps you want to fight for victim's rights... Take up the torch! Get yourself heard. There are no limits to the ways you can make a difference. Get yourself a free web page and get on line today!

If you have never made a web page before and this is your first attempt to do so, explore some of our Recommended Resources to help you get started.

If you need some help getting started with Web page design--you can take an online class at Virtual University. For inspiration, take a tour of those who are "Doing It".
